New Play Coming: "Gossip. Lies. Secrets"

There is a new stage play coming (October 23rd-27th) to the Atlanta Civic Center. Lisa Ray was recently on 106 and Park promoting this play. It stars herself, Malik Yoba, Clifton Powell (who also directs) and Christopher Williams. Here is the synopsis about the play:

Sydney St. Croix is a gifted and well-respected writer with a flair for the finer things in life. From Goose Pate’ to Cartier, only the best will do. She is beautiful, charming and oozes confidence. In fact, you would never guess she was really born, Selma Louise Johnson, or that currently her bank account boasts a whopping twelve dollars and fifty-three cents.

After a string of bad investments, distracting relationships, and dead end writing jobs, Sydney finds herself at the end of her financial rope. Fortunately, she finds solace in her life long relationship with her best girlfriend, R & B super diva, Essence. When these ladies get together for their ritual “sister girl sessions” there are no holds barred. After an evening of sharing sexy secrets, regrettable rendezvous, intimate and sometimes incriminating confessions, the ladies renew their weekly pact to “never tell another soul”. And Sydney leaves feeling much better, knowing that there is at least one person whose life is worse than hers.

If you are dating, this will be good date idea followed up by dessert at a intimate coffee house

Why Did I Get Married Opens Tomorrow

Tyler Perry's new movies opens this weekend and I have heard nothing but good things about it. Most people think that this is a "chic flick", but I have heard men say that really like this movie too ( a few of my friends saw the advance screening). One of my favorite bloggers, Gyant, at Sohh.com saw it and had this to say:

Last night I got the opportunity to go to an advanced screening of Tyler Perry's new movie, Why Did I Get Married in Atlantic Station. I enjoyed the movie adaptation so much that I decided to do a write-up on it. It's not hip-hop, but fellas let's get real for a minute – the ladies are definitely going be dragging our asses out to go and see this film this weekend so you might as well have an idea of what your about to take in. Check out my review below.

In true Gyant fashion I am not the biggest Tyler Perry fan. While his Madea movies were cool, initially the idea of me watching another film that didn't include gun toting, slick talking Madea seemed like a major bore. But I couldn't have been more wrong as the well rounded cast, and Perry's well written script pulled me in faster then a new edition of XXL magazine. W.D.I.G.M. is a about the trials of marriage, and what happens to a circle of friends when a sexy young temptress arrives on the scene.

Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba, Sharon Leal, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, and of course Mr. Perry himself round out the phenomenal cast. Most notably, for all my Janet [Ms. Jackson if you're nasty] fans out there – don't worry, Penny puts her foot in this role reminding us all that she's still an actress turned singing superstar – not the other way around. Tasha Smith also did her thing as the rambunctious alcoholic, with the inability to hold her tongue even in the most delicate of situations. But, Jill Scott's breakout role, and acting debut gave the best performance I've seen on the silver screen in a long time. Her portrayal of Sheila – the modern day Bernadette Peters, ala "Waiting To Exhale" – was outstanding. After watching her acting ability for the first time, she left me with the impression that she's anything but a rookie at the acting game.

Perry's new movie 'Why Did I Get Married' is by far the best "dramedy" I have seen all year. Perry once again has taken his metaphoric brush dipped it into his secret paint and has created a work of art that successfully embodies friendships, endurance, and the meaning of survival with God in your life. Tyler is the master at hiding the message in the medicine. The medicine is laughter and the message is a little bit of spirituality.

Gyant

So please go out to see this movie. Take your man or your girlfriends....it will be a guaranteed good time.

Check out the movie website too...it's pretty interesting

New Downtown Lounge/Bar: Pulse

The people at the Marroitt Marquis are introducing an upscale lounge to downtown Atlanta. I think the concept of this lounge is really creative. To make it's self unique the lounge changes "moods" through out the day. For example, at 6:00 p.m., Pulse’s audible heartbeat will alert the entire hotel to welcome the beginning of an eight-hour social hour as Pulse transforms into a vibrant lounge. So at different points the lounge will not just change music but will also changes lighting to evoke different moods. To make it super fab, it has a 50 ft sail sculpture in the middle of it. I dont know about you...but I am dying to see what it really looks like inside.
